Three courses organised by the students’ association called “Club di economia applicata” (“Club of Applied Economics”), with the contribution of the Department of Economics of the University of Verona
Matlab, Sas and Stat. They are three special softwares which will be studied and used during the three courses organised by the students’ association called “Club di economia applicata” (“Club of Applied Economics”, also called CEA), in collaboration with the Department of Economics of the University of Verona. These courses are free. The above-mentioned softwares are innovative instruments which will be available for students, researchers and professors, thanks to the competences of some experts. Each course will last 24 hours of didactics and practice in total, divided into eight lessons. The lessons will be held in the lecture room called “Offeddu” at the building of the Department of Economics. The students who will attend the lessons will obtain 3 CFU of the category called “F”, after having passed a qualifying examination. Stata. The course, held by Nicola Tommasi, researcher of the so-called “Cide” (“Centro interdipartimentale di documentazione economica di ateneo” – “Interdepartmental Centre of Economic Documentation”), started on 4th March. It is reserved to students and researchers of the University of Verona who want to lead quantitative researches in Economics and in Social Sciences in general. Indeed, the software called “Stata” can be used for various purposes, such as the management of databases, statistical and econometric analyses and graphic analyses. The aim of the lessons is to supply the knowledge in the management and in the analysis of databases and to introduce in the language of programming language. Sas. Diego Lubian, Director of the Department of Economics of the University of Verona, explains: “Already since the last year our Department has decided to activate an introductive course for the use of the software called Sas, used in many business realities. The aim of the course is to strengthen the competences of the students enroled in master programmes, competences in the management, in the manipulation, in the mining and in the elaboration of great databases and in the creation of professional reports. Students hailed very much: 50 students enroled and 30 participants were present during the two training days held last July. Their evaluations were so positive that the Department decided to repeat the initiative.”. Indeed, the course will start on 6th March, from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. and will be held by the analyst Alezzia Zidda. The participants in the course Matlab will use a software for the technical and scientific calculus. The lessons of the course will start on 2nd April from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. . Luigi Malachini and Irene Oliani of the society called “Sphera Consulting” will introduce the participants in the syntax and in the language of “Matlab” and will show some economic and financial applications of the software.
