Covid-19, the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) authorises ‘Solidarity’ study supported by WHO

The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) has authorised the “Solidarity" study, a multicenter and multinational trial supported by WHO

The new study will involve thousands of patients with Covid-19: it will be randomized and various therapeutic strategies will be evaluated. Depending on the evidence that becomes available, it will be possible to change the groups of participants in the trial. A commission of independent experts will evaluate the interim results of the trial and determine the efficacy of treatments for patients. The medical procedures required by the trial will be minimal, so as not to place an additional burden on health care facilities.

In Italy, the coordinating centre of the Project is the Infectious Diseases Section at the Department of Diagnostics and Public Health of the University of Verona (Principal Investigator: Prof. Evelina Tacconelli). The Project includes collaboration with 32 clinical centres throughout the national territory in order to enable the widest possible participation.
